Principles of Universal Design
The seven "Principles of Universal Design" from NC State University Center for Universal Design were used as guidelines in the development of the Threadstone tool.
1.
Perceptible Information
Threadstones provide easily
interpreted indications of damage requiring repair, and easily perceived evidence
that the repairs are complete.
2.
Tolerance for Error
Threadstones are configured
so that damage does not occur if they are improperly applied.
3.
Intuitive Use
If the stones are handed
to an experienced mechanic without explanation, the mechanic knows what they
are for and how to
use them.
4.
Flexibility in Use
Threadstones can be used:
5.
Appropriate Size and Space
A mechanic can apply the
Threadstone System to the bolts where they stand, including between in-place
stud bolts, even when the cover secured by the bolts is in place.
6.
Low Physical Effort
One mechanic can easily
use the stones.
7.
Equitable Use
Experienced mechanics quickly
understand the Threadstone. Inexperienced mechanics usually can understand
and work the system after instruction with one bolt.
